Wax myrtle belongs to the Myricaceae family.
They are twelve feet evergreen shrubs, they are green in colour with a strong fragrance. On the female plants blue/grey berries grow. The berries are covered in wax. The flowers attract the birds and insects. The flowers bloom in the summer right through until winter The leaves are three inches long with a gloss finish. The trunks are twisted and are green, grey and brown
The wax myrtle is a fast growing evergreen which can reach up to twenty five feet.
The plant is tolerant to partial shade, full shade or full sun, if the plant is in the shade the growth is thin. The soil needs to be clay, well drained, acidic or alkaline. They are found in swamps. They are also drought tolerant.
