osprey

 Ospreys Pandion haliaetus

The osprey belongs to the Pandionidae family.

They are big birds with a slim body, wings and legs. In flight the wings are placed in a M shape.

They adults are white and brown and young are the same but have white spots on the back. The adults and young both have a black line by their eyes going down the head.

They eat fish and they catch it by flying over the water slowly to see if they can see any fish, once they have found some they dive down to the water and picks one with its bills and feet, as they have pads on their feet which allows catching prey easier.

They can be found near water; lakes, ponds and coral reefs.

The females lay the eggs, on average three, the male and female incubate the eggs. They hatch at difference times, so the chick which hatched first is dominant and take its siblings food.
