 Florida paintbrush Carphephorus corymbosus

The Florida paintbrush belongs to the Asteraceae family.

The latin name refers to flower head shape being flat (corymb).

The plant is found in sandy substrate and they can also cope with a drought. After the seeds have bee dispersed, the plant dies in the winter and blooms again in the spring. During the summer it comes from being flat to standing tall.
When fully grown, the Florida paintbrush can grow to three feet.

Fully grown flower heads can be six inches wide with many purple coloured petals and these draw the attention of the butterflies.
