Gray catbird

The gray catbirds belongs to the Mimidae family.


They are a songbird, with a black tail on top and red/brown underneath, the body is grey and brown and the bill is black. They have rounded wings and long legs. 

They are very active, foraging for food and mates. They feed on berries and insects. 

They havent got much stamina in flight, so they do short journeys. The males are very vocal.   

The males sings all the time during breeding season to attract mates, they also chase the female. The nests are located in shrubs and constructed by the female. 

The females lays on average five eggs and these are incubated for thirteen day by the mother but when the chicks have attached both parents feed the chicks. After eleven days they young leave the next to fend for themselves.
