 Golden topminnow Fundulus chrysotus

The golden topminnow belongs to the Fundulidae family.

They have dark spots all along the body. They have a speculated, olive colour body. The males have eleven faint lines and red dots and gold on the head. The underbelly are white. The fins are white and yellow. The females do not have the lines or the red spots but instead they have blue spots on the side. There is a laterally line which goes from the head to the tail. The heads are small, with a small mouth to feed on invertebrates and insects.
They are small fish and grow up to nine inches.
The school is divided into a dominant male with a few females, but it does work like a hierarchy system.

They live mainly in impoundments, streams and swamps.  The females lay the eggs in the water in nest. The spawning process happens in April through to July. The fry are food to crustaceans and insects.
