Gulf fritillary butterfly

The Gulf fritillary butterfly belong to the Nymphalidae family. 

They are vibrant orange with black edging down the wings and black spots. They have a wing span on four inches. 

The male guards the female, the female lays the eggs on the plant. 

The feed on nectar from a range of plants, shepherds needle and cordias for example. 

They are found in urban areas, cities, open fields and woods.
