The cypress tree belongs to the Cupressaceae family.
They are deciduous conifers, so during autumn their needles drop, during this time there are light brown/orange colour. The bald cypress knees (pneumatophores) are the roots, they grow side by side from the ground. Due to the swampy conditions that the cypress live in the knees help to transport air to the drowning roots and during stormy weather aid in keeping the trees in place.
They are grow up to one hundred and twenty feed tall with a six feet trunk. They are able to live for a long time, six hundred years. They are found in swamps and other wet habitats. In these wet environments one of the trees roles is to soak up all the excess water and to stop erosion from occurring
The trees seeds are eaten by many birds, wood ducks, water birds ans squirrels. The seeds which haven't been eaten are able to start growing into a new tree.
These trees are resistant to rotting, so they have been used in manufacturing, fences, flooring and cabinets, just to name a few.
