Roseate spoonbill

The Roseate spoonbill belongs to the Threskiornithidae family. 



The roseate spoonbill are various shades of pink all over the body. The neck is white, the wings are a dark pink and the legs are a pale pink. The bill is a pale yellow. The young are similar to the adults, but they are paler. 

They feed on invertebrates, fish, insects and crustaceans. They hunt by foraging and sifting through the mud and water with their bills open, when they feel food they close the bill shut. 

They breed during the colder months and nest in groups. The courtship is aggressive for both female and male, after the aggression is over with, they sit on a branch giving sticks to one another. The nests are constructed by the females in the mangroves. The females lays around five eggs and they are incubated for around twenty four days. The mother and father both feed the young for around six weeks.
