Banded water snake Nerodia fasciata pictiventris


The Banded water snake belongs to the Colubridae family.


The bodies are brown, red and black and the underside is white with red spots. They can grown to forty five inches. The young have distinctive bands along the body, but the fade during maturity


They are found in swamps, lakes and rivers.


They eat amphibians,frogs and fish.


They are viviparous, the female gives birth in July through to August to around twenty young.
